Mulla’s friends looked at junior and remarked I hope he it satisfied. The other friend said Yes depriving us of a partner just before our last crucial poker game and all because junior has to ride around in his old stroller. I just hope he is satisfied. It is an arduous task to not feel guilt. We feel it when we leave our kids to go to work, we feel it when we think about our aging parents, we feel it when we’re out with friends (with our spouse at home or with friends who are not there), when we lose our temper, when we lie, when we make excuses to not meet someone….the list is endless isn’t it. And the most amazing thing of all is if we don’t feel guilty, we feel guilty about not feeling the guilt. It’s a vicious trap that we are lured into at a young young age and then we are so conditioned that we start finding it pleasurable.

Guilt does nothing for you. It doesn’t change the situation, doesn’t make anybody feel better, only succeeds in making one more person (you!) miserable.

If you have really done something you feel bad about, remember that you are only compounding it by feeling guilt over it. Just believe that What is, Is. Trust that it was always meant to be. Once the action is taken, know that it was beyond your control. It was one of the fixed destined events that just had to happen. And there is nothing you could have done to change it. Do the best you can and once it’s done, move on from it.

When you feel the guilt creeping up, remember that what others feel is their story. If they feel let down or upset because of you, it is still their story. If it hadn’t been you it would have been someone else that would make them feel that way. You were just incidental to the process. You are only responsible for how you feel. So stop feeling the guilt!!

Feel love, feel compassion, feel kindness, just let go of the guilt…
