Chakras of Manifestation – Root chakra – The Fortress

abstract red painted picture with circle pattern mandala of muladhara chakra

abstract red painted picture with circle pattern mandala of muladhara chakra

The root holds a plant to the ground. It sustains and is the foundation of the whole tree. Similarly the base chakra or the root
chakra is the foundation of our life and is concerned with our basic survival needs as well as our material needs including wealth,
prosperity and abundance.

The pattern of how our survival needs are met is shaped during childhood and remains even after we break the dependency on our
care-givers, namely our parents. If we are brought up to consider our basic needs as necessary, we develop a healthy attitude with
regard to ourselves and the way we treat ourselves.

On the other hand take a simple example of a bigger child snatching a toy from a younger child. In this instance the younger child will run to his parent and ideally the parent should maintain trust with the child by giving the child back what belongs to him. If the parent does not and this pattern is repeated many times, the child will have trust issues as he gets older. Not supporting the child also conflicts with the basic safety need required for the healthy growth of a child. Simple acts as these result in mistrust and fear which are root chakra imbalances.

An unbalanced root chakra can manifest as problems in the immune system, reproductive organs, feet, leg, rectum, tailbone, and prostate gland. The root chakra controls the adrenal glands and organs in the lower abdomen as well as the rectum and kidneys. Hence an out of balance root chakra causes diseases like constipation, sciatica, arthritis, anorexia, obesity, eating disorders as well as pain in the lower back, knees and joints. Osteoporosis and other bone and skeleton disorders find their origin in a blocked root chakra as well as auto-immune disorders, frequent illness, fibromyalgia, obesity and weight problems.

On an emotional level a block in the root chakra results in a lower self-esteem, emotional dependency, defensive attitude, tendency to procrastinate, inability to focus on a single task or a lack of career direction. Feeling unsettled, chronic fatigue, feeling unsupported, unable to “let go” of people, places, things – all point to a root chakra issue.

Root chakra issues are mostly physical and the an appropriate way to deal with them is through physical action. Martial arts, Tai chi, walking, running, yoga and gardening establish our connection to the earth and keep us grounded – basic requirements for healing the root chakra.

To make things happen in the physical world, we draw our energy from the root chakra. One of the main functions of the root chakra is to solidify, to make real. The base chakra is essential in manifesting any idea, dream or concept. The desire to act, to do, to move is the expression of the energy of the root chakra. An inability to manifest material abundance into one’s life is a sign of a root chakra imbalance.
Our means of survival – food, shelter, light, money are supplied by others. This makes us habitually fearful as we fear these can be taken away from us. Constant fear manifests itself as stress. Depending on the personality of a person, stress and fear show up either as aggression or withdrawal and efforts of help are perceived as a threat. Staying in a constant state of stress and alertness, causes an emotional burnout and results in poor motivation. Poor motivation is one of the main features of insufficient energy in the root chakra.
The root chakra is located at the spine at the tailbone. it’s element is the Earth and the color is red. It is often symbolised by a square. Since its element is the earth, it most related to the physical body.
and is the most dense. To heal the root try walking barefoot on the grass or stomping your feet. As the root chakra is associated with the color red, including red foods in your diet will help balance the root chakra. Red foods and foods that grow in the ground include foods such as, carrots, potatoes, parsnips, pomegranates. Red foods would also include red meat and eggs. Spices like pepper nourish the root chakra.
The root chakra must be well balanced so that we can anchor and use the spiritual energy for our well-being and development. It gives us the energy and the motivation needed to put to good use whatever resources are available.

The Durga or Receiving symbol

We as a group of healers and light workers trip on doing energy circles and Reiki circles together. Most of the times our angels, masters and all other world friends bless us with some messages or highlight some points that need our attention. We’ve been doing Reiki for almost 3 years now and it’s now a part of us just as breathing is, so obviously we’ve been patiently waiting for a big message or a symbol to pop up for us. Well one can be hopeful right? 🙂

This year, during the Indian Navratri festival, which celebrates the different forms of Shakti, we decided to do a Goddess Reiki circle, invoking the different forms of Shakti to bless us with their powerful energy. Little did we know that our lovely, dynamic, charismatic Durga will bless us with our very own Reiki symbol and it was well worth the wait.

A dear friend from the Reiki circle channelled this symbol for us and the more I looked at it, the more sense it made…..

Durga Look at it.. at first you see the Durga eyes with the big bindi in the centre.. Ah! How I love this symbol. Every time you need the Durga Shakti, you simply draw this symbol. It’s your very own secret code of connection with Durga. Well this is not it; this symbol has so so so so much more to offer.

First, the very obvious one is the healing of the Third eye Chakra. The drop/bindi sits perfectly on your third eye and helps in healing the blocks and balancing this chakra. You can invoke the energy of this symbol if you feel a creative block, if your thoughts are not streamlined, if your head feels crowded and you can also use this for headaches and sinus issues.

Let’s go a bit more in depth and see what more the symbol has to offer… When you look at it closely you will see, it’s a being standing there with open arms and the universe blessing the being with a drop from the ocean. Mind you! The drop is just the perfect size so that the being can hold it in his arms, take it in and savour it with ease. Nothing more and nothing less. Just like life and just like the answers to our prayers.

The universe knows exactly how much we need and how much we can savor and gifts us with exactly that. It’s we who cannot see beyond, hence always want more. In this regard the application of this symbol in Reiki would be to send out your intent but then open up yourself to receiving along with mammoth trust in the universe, that it will provide you with exactly what is required at that moment.

Many a times, we as healers have noticed that even though people ask for healing, they may not always accept it or be open to receiving it consciously or subconsciously. In these situations invoking this symbol works wonders.

I feel this symbol can also be used as an affirmation. Drawing this symbol is indicating that you are open to receiving all that the universe has to offer. A lot of us face problems with balanced giving and receiving. Just like the Yin and Yang, the Giving and Receiving have to be in balance. Most of us have no problems giving but when it comes to receiving we are not even aware of what we are doing wrong.

Balancing the Yin and Yang: This symbol was given to us by Durga Shakti and Durga resides in the Sacral Chakra, the seat of Yin and Yang. This symbol also denotes the balancing scales, which is balancing the core of our being, The Yin and Yang. If you have issues with symmetry and balance then this symbol works wonders. You can also use this in Reiki sessions where the client needs healing in the above mentioned aspects.

It also a fantastic symbol for Card readers and for all Mediums and Channels. Invoking this symbol will help you open up and help in establishing a strong connection with the divine energy. Our message was to make this symbol freely available. This is not a secret symbol so feel free to share with as many as possible.

Enjoy the symbol, savour it and own it..

To Receive is Divine

Giving is an act of pleasure and we all feel wonderful when we give to our children, our friends, our parents, strangers and all those around us. I  feel fantastic when I think I have done something wonderful for someone. Riding high on this generous wave I bought gifts for everyone during the Diwali festival. The elated feeling lasted the whole day.
receive
Keeping in tune with the festival wave,  I also spent the whole evening decorating the house and preparing things for the visitors that ‘may’ drop in. In the process I  missed the firecrcaker show that I was going to go with the kids. The bubble burst the next day, when my little one remarked that the gift was fantastic but he would rather have gone out to watch firecracker show and light up the crackers with me.
That’s when I wondered that do we really give? How many times do we pause and think when we decide to do something for someone or give something to someone?
Does the someone really want what we generously hand out, or is the giving  just another way to massage our ego and feed the belief about how ‘kind’ or ‘generous’ we are. That’s when I realized that there are a number of things I do in a day – things that make me feel that I am a great mom, a great boss, a great wife, a super friend and so on. All about my perception on what I am doing for the wonderful people in my life.
Maybe the hour spent in watching the firecracker show was a better act of giving then the thirty minutes spent in finding the perfect gift. But it definitely was the tougher choice. Giving goes hand in glove with receiving. Giving without the pleasure of receiving is not giving. Giving just because someone insists on wanting something is not giving. Giving with the thought that what you give will make a difference to the ‘someone’ – not a difference to you or those around the person is the act of giving – as what is given is received and the act of giving is completed.
Sometimes we give our time, do things for the people we love, as that is our way of showing that we care about them. If I could pause for a split second before I carry out a random act of kindness, I would realize that the act may not be that kind to me or even kind for the person it is being done for. Just for that moment I realize that when there is as much joy in giving as in receiving ‘giving’ becomes the generous act that is.

Reiki & Weight Loss

The big question is – can it help and how can it help?

The answer is a big YES!

Not in a quick fix kind of way. But in a gentle, easy, loving way which clears the reason for the weight.

You may not wake up in the morning a few Kilos less but you will observe a few things after Reiki.

You will have a new vitality, you may find yourself waking up bright and early ready to seize the day. You will find that you suddenly have more energy. Energy for physical things, not sitting on the chair an typing. Energy to get up and get moving. Maybe even the desire to go for a walk 😉

You will find a need for healthy food. If you feed your body a lot of junk, you might find may find yourself reach for that apple instead. Over time it will become impossible to finish that bar of chocolate in one sitting.

A door will open for you. You may find a wonderful yoga class in the vicinity or you may fall in love with Zumba.

And maybe you won’t lose any weight at all but recognise that you are perfect as you are 🙂

As Reiki clears up your energy and fills you beautiful loving light you find that you listen to your body more, you are more aware of the messages and opportunity that Spirit sends your way. The void that you filled with junk food will be filled with loving light instead. Your body will need to expend this new energy it has and you will find constructive ways to channel it.

It will be a slow and gentle process but the wonderful thing is that you will not need to force yourself to make any changes. They will happen. And it will be effortless. And it will become a way of life. It will be who you are, who you always needed to be.

Joy & the Immune System

Happiness is one of the greatest antibiotics available to us. It creates balance in the blood and releases stress by flushing out damaging toxins. Studies have shown that depression leads to lowered T lymphocytes. Negative emotions will therefore contribute to prolonged infection. Just by staying relaxed and happy you can boost your immune response.

A way to build the immune system is to focus on the thymus gland. The thymus gland is an important organ of the immune system. It regulates the level of prana or life energy within the body. In scientific terms the thymus gland is instrumental in the production and maturation of T-lymphocytes or T cells. T cells protect the body from viruses and infections and form a part of the immune system. The thymus produces and secretes thymosin, a hormone necessary for T cell development and production.

For those allergic to environmental changes an increase in allergy symptoms indicates that our immune system is working overtime. A stuffy nose, inflamed eyes or a sore throat are a result of the mucous produced by the immune system, when it fights, invading infections. If the immune system is not strong the bacteria can go deeper in the body and cause fever or pain and even aching in the joints.

In complementary medicine this gland is of vital importance for the life energy available within the body. This gland is located between the heart and throat chakra right where the two collarbones meet. The thymus sits above the higher eighth chakra and is associated with immune system function for the rest of your aura.

An important quality of the thymus is an expression of uniqueness – what is natural and unique to you. When you repress your qualities you suppress life energy. This results in stress and an inclination towards stress producing illness. If you relax the nervous system the symptoms of allergies start decreasing and diminish over time.

Yoga asanas are an excellent way of relaxing the nervous system. Some Yoga postures that focus on deep breathing and relax the nervous system are:

Kapalbharti – a brilliant technique for allergies as it forces the mucous out of the body.

The Tortoise pose, the Pigeon, the Fish, the Boat, the Bow and the Bridge – stimulates both the thymus gland and the immune system.

Inversions and Forward Bends like – Downward Facing Dog pose (improves the flow of the sinuses and help flush mucous from the lungs).

Camel pose (opens the chest and lungs).

Cobra pose (increases lung mobility).

Basic yoga poses and breathing exercises induce a state of happiness. This state is not just a result of the exercise induced dopamine but goes deeper. The mind-body connection created in yoga brings change at a cellular level. Yoga breathing activates the Parasympathetic nervous system. Yoga integrates mind, body and spirit and therein lies the beauty of this discipline. This connectedness brings forth a deep well of joy and peace. Therein lies the happiness.

The Weight-Loss Chronicles 6 – Open Up

If you are the body type that tends to first put on weight in the shoulders and ribs, you are really blessed because you are made to protect and take care of people. However, in the taking care of people, if you forget to take care of yourself then the trouble arises.

I love the example of the oxygen mask in airplanes. They clearly explain how you cannot save anybody, if you don’t save yourself first. And it is quite tempting to be the go-to person for everybody but sooner or later you will run out of juice.
A big part of having bulky shoulders is taking on a load, a load which is too heavy for you to carry, which is why the shoulders need to bulk up. Think about all the burdens and responsibilities you carry? Are they really yours? Do you feel like you always end up doing more than your share? Do you feel if you don’t, then who will? Well, if you think and feel all of this – STOP NOW!
Let go of the need to carry around all this weight. Do only as much as you really want to and not even a little extra.
A great visualization is literally holding out your hands like you are letting go. And then visualize all the burdens you have placed on yourself leaving you through the palms of your hands. Try this in the shower if possible and use the sensation of water flowing out through your hands. If you are unable to visualize, just say the words of release.
50% of change happens when your are aware of your thoughts and feelings and the patterns they surround you with. Once you see through the illusion of the pattern, you will become more and more aware. Aware that all the expectations are actually from your side. You tend to do more than what is expected and that people become accustomed to you doing more than your share or carrying more than your load. Begin by examining your feelings before throwing yourself into the fray. Is is something you really want to do? Will it give you joy doing it? Not the self sacrificing kind of joy. Not the feeling of accomplishment type of joy. But the joy you feel when you do something you love. Be honest with yourself. Even if you choose to do it because of an obligation, it’s fine, just acknowledge your feelings. It will go a long way in toning down those shoulders.
The flip side of the burden is not feeling supported enough. And that’s the upper back and ribcage padding up to support you. Makes you think doesn’t it. So you like taking on stuff, carry it around and then feel unsupported! Here’s when you start to let people in. Choose to put your feet up once in a while and allow people to support you. Don’t wait for a time when you actually need the support. Do this tomorrow if you can. Plan for it, tell everyone around you that it’s your day off. Lie in bed, read, go for a massage, just take some time out for yourself. This is about taking care of yourself first. And the best part is that after this, you will genuinely feel like doing something for other people.
A large chest usually means a large-hearted person. And the capacity for this person to love others is really amazing. This person however needs to work a lot in the self-love department. A lot of fat in the chest means a lot of protection to the heart. A tendency to be hurt easily, a tendency to not believe that people can and do love them. And going back to start, they don’t believe that they are loved because they don’t love themselves. They are so occupied in giving that they forget to receive.
Our hands represent the giving and receiving aspects of us. And stretched out connect to the heart. There is somewhat of a controversy on which is the giving hand and which the receiving hand. Nonetheless, you can’t give without receiving and you cannot receive without giving. It is erroneously believed by us that the giving and receiving should be done to the same person i.e. we try and give back to the person we receive from. It doesn’t matter who receives from you and who gives to you. The only thing that matters is that we receive as much as we give, the universe takes care of the balance at the macro level.
Some amazing affirmations to work with are –
I open my heart to love. Love flows within me, around me, without me.
I am ready to give and receive (love).
I allow myself to be fully supported. All of life supports me.
I feel light. I feel free.
The beautiful Rose Quartz is the crystal to wear. There is something so special about this crystal – I feel like I become a little more attractive when I wear it 🙂
The emerald is another stone that works brilliantly.
Do remember that in none of the chapters are we talking about really thin people. The posts are all about being in the body weight we are meant to be in. And sometimes it’s not about the gross weight but what you see when you look in the mirror. As long as you are happy with what you see, you’re fine!
A few things you can do if you feel like it  –
Be kind to people. Starting with yourself. Say one kind thing to yourself everyday. And one kind thing to another person – friend, relative or even a complete stranger.
Look with the eyes of love and appreciation. Starting with the mirror and extending to other people. Focus on the good things.
Compliment people, even if you think they are looking fat, even if it’s fake to start with. Sooner or later you will mean it. Oh and don’t forget to tell the mirror how gorgeous you are.

The Weight-Loss Chronicles 5 – Tummy Trouble

The overall weight-loss story is a Solar Plexus chakra story. Remember when we talked about fight vs flight and its impact on weight. The fight is when we feel a loss of control or start resisting something. This chakra is all about Power, Control, Will, Self Worth & Ego. The ‘controlling’ of weight as it were, therefore, belongs to this Chakra. The Solar Plexus is the band above the navel and below the heart.

The thing with the tummy is that it is partly the Solar and partly the Sacral and it is difficult to talk about one without the other. The ‘key’ is actually the Solar Plexus, as it has a part to play in the overall weight story. The connections happen when we start talking about a sweet tooth and about our lust for Chocolate. A Chocolate obsession, in my book, puts you in the Sacral category and an overall sweet tooth is the Solar.

There is an interesting story on Diabetes as well. The connection with the organs makes it both a Solar and Sacral story. If you have Diabetes, try and figure out when you discovered you had it. Chances are that it was the point when good things started happening to you. Diabetes is literally ‘inability to process sweet’ and if you take that thought forward to life…it’s the inability to process the sweetness of life. So, actually diabetes happens when life becomes sweet (after much hardship or lack) and the body-mind-spirit has forgotten how to handle it. A great affirmation is ‘I’m ready to enjoy the sweetness of life’. Please note that you should not stop medication but do go for regular tests to see if there is improvement.

Anyways, back to the Solar Plexus Chakra. Now think about all of the associated words and their context to weight. Willpower to not eat that cake? Fat and worthless? Binge eating or out of control eating? You get my drift right? And it is really easy to break it down for yourself. Take Power to start with. When do you feel powerless? Helpless? Is that when you start eating? Now the powerlessness could be related to a security issue you have and you may end up putting on weight on your butt, however, the trigger to binge will be activated at the Solar level.

If you start putting on weight at the tummy first. Or basically are apple-shaped, then it’s a solar story with you. And it’s important to note if it’s below navel or above navel. Below is a Sacral Chakra story. If you simply put on weight evenly across your body, that is a Solar story as well.

Think about the situations / instances that made you start putting on weight or makes you put on more weight. Think about the triggers. Even if you feel that it’s physical. So you had a week long party or were on holiday, just get in touch with the emotions you felt. A holiday is meant to relax us, but in truth, we think about our work, colleagues, and all the insecurities pour in, and we put on weight. Stress eating is a complete Solar story.

Going back to the words. The Solar Plexus is distressed when you feel Powerless or Helpless. When you feel Out of Control, or when situations look Out of Control. When you feel less Worthy or not good enough.

What is interesting is that most of the words associated with the Solar can be considered external or in relation to others. But are actually very very internal. All issues of worthiness are always internal. And the external is just mirror for how we feel internally. And a lot of times it really is internal because when you check with the person who supposedly put you down, you will realize that the person meant something entirely different from what you understood.

Self worth is an interesting story and I feel I’m rambling now, so I’ll try and put it down in bullet points 🙂

– If you exist, you are worthy! Like the butterfly effect, only the divine knows what your purpose is and by existing you are meeting your purpose. There is no need for anything more – so just do what makes you happy.

– Don’t define yourself by what you Do but by who you are. And remember that you are perfect as you are.

– Be happy with who you are. Stop berating yourself over shoulds and musts. Believe yourself worthy of saying Yes to yourself (even if it means saying no to others)

– Try not to compare yourself to other people. You will never know their full story.

The control story is all about trust. You know the over-controlling boss has trust issues! When you feel that things are not in control, take a deep long breath and say ‘I choose to trust’. Even when things look bleak, just trust that the storm is simply leading you to the rainbow. A great affirmation for the Solar plexus is ‘I flow with the flow of life’ or ‘I surrender to the will of the universe’ (I love love  the second one – makes me feel like I’m dissolving into the universal energy).

Another aspect of control is letting go. You know where this is headed right? So, constipation – and therefore holding on to weight. Try ‘I let go and I let flow’.

The last aspect is power. And this about examining the definition of power and the reasons you feel powerless. Being true to yourself is the most powerful thing in the world. Do check an earlier post on power  – ode to shakti.

I love the Citrine – it’s is a great crystal to work with the Solar Plexus. I even use it to aid digestion after an overly indulgent meal 😉

Mantras & Chakras

om earth meets sky

There are some days that you can look back on and you know that something shifted and you would not be the same again. One of those days was the day I started listening to Thomas Ashley-Farrand. It changed the way I comprehended mantras and how I felt about them. TAF has a 12 part series on Healing Mantras and a book as well. I am more a reader but the tapes really were magical.

TAF talks about sound and how it precedes even light. First there was a ‘big bang’ and then the world was created. And ‘god SAID, let there be light’ – he had to say it, and therefore produced a sound before light. So our relationship with sound is at the primordial level, we feel the vibrations in the depths of our being. And change occurs at a deep cellular level. That is the power of mantras.

These are but a few that I have worked with and this is my experience with them. Rule of thumb for chanting matras is 108 times for 40 days. Seems like a lot but it takes all of 8 minutes to do a 108 round. A chanting meditation is best but I add on singing/chanting them through the day.

Root Chakra – We’re talking fears here and financial difficulties. Or even property related issues. All things related to safety, security, protection.

For all fears, if you fear for your safety, or worry about your safety, feel that you will be harmed in any way, then the Kali and/or Durga Mantra is the one for you. ‘Om dum durgaye namah’ & ‘Om kreem kalikaye namah’

I remember chanting the Durga Mantra while going through a dark hallway at night. I remember the wild beating of my heart and how I felt this amazing calmness as I chanted the mantra.

For difficulties, obstacles, things not materializing it’s the Ganesha mantra ‘Om gum ganapatiye namah’. One of my earlier posts gives the explanation of the Ganesha Mantra so I wont repeat it here.

I feel this one in my mind, like the unnecessary thoughts are going into the trash bin. Clearheaded and a lightness around the crown.

Sacral – for adding creativity, fertility, joy, embracing your femininity / masculinity.

Joy is the Durga mantra again. I feel this upliftment, like something is rising from deep inside and it always turns my lips upwards.  Henry Marshall’s rendition of this mantra is my favourite.

Solar Plexus – this is about will, control, abundance, flowing with life.

If the attempt is to have more power and control. And to invite abundance to life then it’s the Laxmi mantra for you. ‘Om shreem maha laxmiye namah’

Also known as the great abundance mantra. Now is the time for Laxmi actually, it’s a great time to start chanting this manta

If you want to surrender control or surrender the ego, to flow with the flow of life, to be one with the will of the universe, then you do the Vishnu mantra. For anything that gives you power it will most likely be a feminine mantra, as power (shakti) is feminine. ‘Om namoh bhagwate vasudeva’

The difference in chanting both of them is astounding. With the Vishnu mantra you have this sense of peace and you don’t get troubled easily.  With the Laxmi mantra, you have an opening up of possibilities, and of a positive outlook.

A combination of the Laxmi Mantra & the Ganesha Mantra is a sure shot recipe for success. The first opens up possibilities and the second gives you focus and clarity to achieve your goals.

Heart – for love, compassion, healing and kindness, there really isn’t anything like ‘Om mani padme hum’. The mantra actually clears all the chakras not just the heart. But it’s the heart where all healing starts from and it’s the first chakra it opens.

It is often the first mantra people start with and I highly recommend it. The most amazing thing about this mantra is the cool breeze that follows as you start chanting it. It is Quan Yin’s signature to let you know she’s with you. Keep watch for it, it’s quite quite incredible.

Throat – for creative expression (writing, singing, painting…), saying the right thing, sore throats. The simple saraswati mantra ‘Om aim saraswatiye namha’ works really well or the longer gayatri mantra ‘Om bhur bhuva swahah, tat savitur varenium, bhargo devasya dhimahi, diyo yo na prachodayat’. The gayatri mantra is also considered to be an ascension mantra.

Both these have the same energy signature for me. They are like butterfly mantras – you feel a little bit like skipping out in the sun.

Third Eye & Crown – For seeing, perceiving clearly and with compassion, for headaches, ear aches and eye troubles. And for energy clearance. The universal sound ‘Aum’ works, it also clears all the chakras not just the Crown and Third eye.

The other mantra that really works is ‘Om namah shivaah’. This is a love and pure consciousness mantra and works for all chakras. This one starts from the crown and moves downwards.

The Gayatri mantra works as well – would say it’s a throat to crown mantra.

My favourite energy clearance mantra is ‘ek on kar, satnam’, you can also say ‘ek OM kar, satnam’. This one really makes you feel like God!

The Weight-Loss Chronicles 4: Chocolate & the Sacral Chakra

In between the belly button and the tailbone is the Sacral chakra. If you are a belly weight gainer, figure out if it is below the naval or above. If you get the little belly below you have a Sacral story going on with you.

Chances are that you like chocolate – a lot! If you have a sweet tooth and any sweet will do and you don’t like chocolate much then wait for the next chapter on the Solar Plexus 🙂

The Sacral chakra is about Creativity and Creation, Sex and Sexuality, Fertility, Joy, Pleasure & Abundance. Think about these words and see where you find the lack or the struggle. It is possible that Creativity flows though you but Joy alludes you.

Scientists have proven that when we eat chocolate it releases the pleasure hormones in our brain. If our word is lacking in pleasure, we crave chocolate because our natural or ideal state of being is about being happy, creating and about pleasure. Pleasure itself has an offshoot of pleasing – are you pleasing yourself enough? Or are you constantly putting all your efforts in pleasing others?

None of this means that chocolate is bad. Chocolate is great because it is giving your body what it needs. But wouldn’t it be amazing that your mental and emotional state was so full of pleasure that you would not need that much chocolate. Please don’t force yourself to stop, it will happen on its own as the chakra corrects itself.

The chocolate connection is an indicator that the sacral needs correction. The other indicator is the weight gain in the lower belly area. Simple affirmations are a great way to start and so is wearing crystals. Incidentally, the other thing that releases the happy hormones is exercise 🙂 No escaping that no matter what chakra you work on. Do a little walking, try a minute of running, if you couple that with some affirmations the results will be quite phenomenal.

The Carnelian is the best sacral chakra healing stone. I have noticed that it takes me a little while to get accustomed to the stone (yes, the sacral is my story 🙂 ) so I start by wearing it for an hour or so and slowly build it up to the full day.

Other crystals that benefit the sacral are moonstones and mother of pearl and rubies. Rubies I find the easiest to wear actually. And I prefer the tumbled version to the faceted Jewelry kind. Rule of thumb is that if the crystal is orange in colour it will work on the sacral chakra. Wearing the various shades of orange helps as well. You just realized that you really like the colour orange right?! That’s your body telling you your needs:)

Here’s a set of affirmations that work well for the sacral –

1. I am open to receiving the pleasures in life / I’m open to joy / I’m ready to let happiness into my life

2. Life is easy, life is fun, oh what joy to be under the sun

3. Creativity flows through me, in and around me

4. I love being a woman/man. It is joyous being a woman/man.

See which one resonates with you the most and go with that. 21 times for 21 days or longer.

Do remember to cleanse your crystals and activate them.

Surrender it to Krishna

download (1)

Met a lovely girl recently and she shared this practice that she does (or tries to) every night.

At the end of each day, surrender all your actions to Krishna. Good ones, bad ones, things you din’t do, things you should’ve, things you could’ve. Just offer them all to Krishna.

And the next day start with a clean slate.

No owing people, no making up for your misdeeds, no guilt, no recriminations. Every night give it up and every morning start anew.

We are so caught up in the past and the future baggage that we completely miss the today. All that we owe people, all that people owe us. All the things we should do because they are expected from us. And our expectations from others. If it can happen in those 24 hrs do it. If not, let Krishna do the balancing.

If every day starts with no one to owe and nothing to balance out, how liberating would that be.

All the deeds of the previous day – good, bad, ugly – forget them at the end of the day. And it’s not just the dropping of the guilt for all your misdeeds. It is also the basking in the glory of your good deeds. Bask away – but just for a day. Because tomorrow the slate will be clean.

The flip side to you not owing anything to anybody is that nobody owes you either. And think about what you would do, how you would behave, what you would not do, if you were not collecting goodwill or IOUs from others. And see how you start taking precedence over everything else!

Try it for a month and see how it changes you and the world around you.
